John Daly suspended by PGA

John Daly mug shotPGA golfer John Daly was suspended for six months by the PGA this week.

Daly who said the suspension is the “low point” of his career, is also dealing with the fact his world ranking has dropped to 736, he had only survived five cuts out of 17 on the tour and had plummeted to 232 on the earnings chart.

Although the PGA has a policy that does not allow them to discuss suspensions, Daly believes the suspension is a response to many incidents that occured over the past year including the PR disaster in Winston-Salem, N.C. when police officers found the golfer intoxicated in a Hooters parking lot, cuffed him, donned him in prison garb and had him sleep it off in a cell.

Although he wasn’t officially arrested and charged, the incident provided another mug shot of Daly that circulated the internet bringing more negative exposure to golf and the PGA. That was not the first time Daly had cheesed for a mug shot and the PGA must have felt they need to act.

Daly had been gaining attention for his radical moves over the past year including when he teed off on a beer can during a pro-am and another time at Innisbrook in Florida when he showed up with Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden as his caddie.

An obese recovering alcoholic, Daly also showed up to do an interview to promote a Missouri golf course wearing just jeans; he was shirtless and shoeless.

During a New Year’s Eve interview, Daly stated “This has been the worst year. Just one day left”.

Daly will travel to Europe where he will play in several tournaments during the suspension.
